“LOVE LETTERS”

A Solo Art Exhibition from Tyler Podomik

Show Statement

Love Letters is a contemporary collection of paintings influenced by reimagining artwork from the past.  I’ve employed processes and imagery from 16th century renaissance art along with 20th century techniques in order to bridge a gap between these contrasting styles. This is an attempt to stand on the shoulders and learn from a variety of great artwork that has come before me.  I’ve imagined what it would be like if painters from these different eras were to collaborate.  This is my pursuit of bringing these impossible collaborations to life.

In eight years as an artist, I have found myself conversing with people who are more experienced in art, life, and purpose.  It is through these conversations that I have begun to localize and pinpoint my place in the world.  These paintings serve as excerpts from these conversations.  Each painting symbolizes a love letter written with specific ideas, inspirations, people, and memories in mind.

My hope is for the viewer to be captured by the vibrancy of this collection while simultaneously experiencing the emotion each piece provokes.  Whether happy or sad, reflective or ignorant; the work in this show embodies the vulnerability of loving something or someone.
